Eating is important at Hotel Amsterdam. The Dutch Restaurant De Roode Leeuw is part of the hotel. In the restaurant, the most delicious meals are prepared.
Jeroen Jansen, who has worked as a cook in this restaurant for 18 years, goes to work with pleasure each day. “People that work here hardly ever leave their jobs in the hotel. Even pensioners come back to work for a few days a week. That is unique for the people working here”, he says. “He likes the company. It is a combination of an informal atmosphere, freedom, no rules from above, and not being part of a big hotel chain.”
Small and personal, that are the words that former Commissioner Pels Rijcken used to describe De Roode Leeuw. "It is a fine place, always has been. I came here with the family, but also played billiards with friends when I studied economy at the University of Amsterdam. It was incredibly fun, you knew everyone and you paid a pleasant price. That feeling is still there."
